#61 INTERVIEW – Danielle Smith, on the Future of the Press

We've got a new interview for you. Danielle Smith is a former Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, and served as leader of the Wildrose Party from 2009 to 2014, and the host of an Alberta-wide talk radio show on 770 CHQR Calgary. In January, she walked away from that radio show, and she has a message for the media about accountability. Since accountability is a huge part of what we do at the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, our Prairie Director Todd MacKay called Smith for an interview. Like this show? Subscribe and give us 5-stars! #59 Trudeau Sets No-Budget Record, Lockdowns Postpone Surgeries, Canadians Billed to Study Abandoned Barn

News at the Top – Trudeau Sets No-Budget Record Even though the federal budget has been announced for Apr. 19, the Trudeau government has officially gone more than two full years without producing one. Even back in World War II, there wasn’t a gap this long. Alberta Director Franco Terrazzano and British Columbia Director Kris Sims break down the bizarre problem. We know that government lockdowns have hurt workers and businesses. On top of those painful impacts, more than 350,000 surgeries and consultation across the country have been postponed during the pandemic, according to a new report released by the think tank SecondStreet.org.   Our Alberta Director Franco Terrazzano and our Quebec Director Renaud Brossard are up to talk about the problem. #58 The 2021 Teddy Waste Awards

#58 The 2021 Teddy Waste Awards

Earlier this month, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation held its 23rd annual Teddy Waste Awards ceremony in a special virtual presentation, celebrating the best of the worst in government waste uncovered in the past year. The Teddy, a pig-shaped award given annually by the CTF to government’s worst waste offenders, is named for Ted Weatherill, a former federal appointee who was fired in 1999 for submitting a panoply of dubious expense claims, including a $700 lunch for two. This year's winners include former governor general Julie Payette, a troubled ferry route in Quebec, and the City of Toronto's expensive approach to bike lanes. A full list of the nominees can be found here: https://www.taxpayer.com/newsroom/canadian-taxpayers-federation-presents-23rd-annual-teddy-awards-for-government-waste ...
