Canadians have always had a tax exemption when they sell their primary residence and politicians swear they’ll never impose a home equity tax. So, what’s the problem? More than 100,000 taxpayers have signed our PETITION opposing a home equity tax because they’re not sure they can trust politicians. And when we dug into the details, there’s good reason for that skepticism. Check out the CANADIAN TAXPAYERS STORE!   Like this show? Subscribe and give us 5-stars! #53 Cut Off Governors General, Wealth Tax Will Backfire, and Montreal Buys Snow?

News at the Top – Cut Off Governors General The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has talked a lot about the expenses and pensions for retired governor generals. We even have a petition running calling on the federal government to scrap those benefits. Well, Ipsos Public Affairs did a poll, and it turn out most Canadians agree with us. Our B.C Director Kris Sims and Federal Director Aaron Wudrick talk about the results. Link: https://globalnews.ca/news/7634565/julie-payette-resignation-expenses/   SIGN THE PETITION: https://www.taxpayer.com/petitions/cut-off-expenses-when-a-governor-general-leaves-office Deep Dive – Wealth Tax Will Backfire Ottawa is spending a lot of money these days. The Liberals have said they won’t be raising taxes to pay for all of it, while the NDP is calling on them to make “the rich pay for the recovery” with a wealth tax.   Our Ontario Director Jasmine Moulton and our Alberta Director Franco Terrazzano discuss that self-defeating idea. Well, at least one city in Canada would try something like that, with Montreal laying down $63,000 for snow in the middle of winter. Our Quebec Director Renaud Brossard talks about the head-scratching purchase with Prairie Director Todd MacKay.
